Salvation

1 John 5:11-12 (KJV)
And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

We see here that the record, or testimony, is the Word of God. In this verse we see that God did give us eternal life. This life can be found in his Son Jesus Christ, and we see that whoever has the Son of God has that life. In addition, we see also that whoever does not have the Son does not have eternal life. This testimony from God’s Word can convince us of not only salvation but of the assurance of that salvation.

John 20:31 (KJV)
But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

This verse lets us know why God wrote the book of John. Expressing this so that we could understand that through the belief of God’s Son we would have life.

Romans 5:8 (KJV)
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

This verse tells us how God showed his love toward us through the sacrificial death of this Son, Jesus Christ.

Isaiah 59:2 (KJV)
But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.

We see in this verse that our sin separates us from God, because of this God’s face is hidden from us so that he does not hear us.

Ephesians 2:8-9 (KJV)
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

In this verse we can understand that none of our efforts in any way will lead us to God. It is by grace through faith; God gives it freely to us.

1 Peter 3:18 (KJV)
For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

Peter explains in this verse that Jesus Christ went to the cross in order to bring us to God. Jesus did this once for the just and the unjust and in doing so justified all our sins so that when God looks upon us he sees only what Jesus did for us on the cross.

John 1:12 (KJV)
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

John tells us here how we receive this gift of salvation, we must believe on Jesus' name.

John 5:24 (KJV)
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

We learn here that they are three things as a result of hearing and believing:

Everlasting life
We shall not come into condemnation
That we will pass from death unto life

John 10:27-29 (KJV)
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.

Jesus promised his followers:

bulletHe will hear our voice
bulletEternal life
bulletWe shall not perish
bulletNo man will take us away from God

2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV)
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

This is evidence of what will take place in a new believer’s life. God, over time, will cause our old self to die away and will put in its place a new self that is more like Jesus. We will never become perfect until we get to Heaven and receive our new bodies; however, if we “die daily” as Paul writes we will become more like Christ everyday.

Here is a list of some experiences that others have felt in their lives as Christians:

bulletInner peace
bulletDesire to read the Bible
bulletVictory over sin
bulletAttitude changes
bulletNew awareness of sin
bulletSense of forgiveness
bulletNew love for God
bulletNew concern for others

It is very important to participate in a church where the Word of God is taught in its entirety. Christians grow when they are around other Christians. It also allows us to worship God in His Church: not the building, but as a body of believers.
