Buck Smith   (Tenor)

For 49 years Buck Smith has been singing Southern Gospel Music. The first 10 years was with other groups. ‘My first experience was when the manager of ‘The Gospel Four’, James Lee, asked me to come and practice with them. I lasted about one month! James told me I would never make it as a tenor singer.’ Even after that disappointment I still had a desire to sing. A few months later Carl Moore and I formed ‘The Psalmsmen’. I sang with this group four year, then with ‘The Revelairs Quartet’ before organizing ‘The Royal Masters’.

I was in my Thirties before I realized singing was going to be a very ‘BIG’ part of my life. In 1970 God led me, with the help of Buddy Poe, to organize the “Royal Masters Quartet”. These last 39 years I have had numerous members come and go in the group, but God has give me the health and ability to keep the group together. I give Him all the Praise for this.

My wife, Helen, has been by my side and supported me every step of the way. She handles the book work, Gatlinburg Trips, Concerts and many other projects. Together we have had over 30 years of working for the Lord through The Royal Masters. Our desire is to share the Gospel in Song to those who need the Lord.

Steve Johnson   (Lead)

Steve and his wife Janice reside in Adamsville, AL where Steve grew up. They attend the Forestdale Free Will Baptist Church. Steve joined the Royal Masters in 2005 singing lead & baritone. He is no stranger to gospel music. He has sang with many different groups since he was 11 years old along with teaching Sunday School and Minister of Music in several churches. His wife Jan is a faithful helper to the quartet. She sets up and works the product table as well as making sure everyone looks good and occasionally sings a song or two.

Tommy Drew   (Baritone)

Tommy has been singing Gospel music on and off for several years. He started singing with his first quartet in 1985. This is his third time around with The Royal Masters Quartet. He sang with the group for the first time in 1989. Because of obligations at work, which involved moving out of the Birmingham area, Tommy decided to resign. He started singing with Buck Smith again in 1996. Tommy left the group in 1999 and began as worship leader at Purpose Baptist Church in Opelika, Alabama. Tommy is married to Claire Drew and is retiring in Senoia, Georgia. He looks forward to serving God through gospel music with The Royal Masters Quartet. “I have great respect for Buck Smith and am excited about being back with the group. It’s a pleasure to sing gospel music with a group of men that live what they sing about. It’s not a performance but a ministry. We sing, expecting lives to be changed through God’s word in song”.

Greg Carter   (Bass)

Greg has been traveling and singing southern gospel music for more than 35 years. He has sang with several quartets over the years to include The Harvesters, Southern Harmony, The Thrasher Brothers and he founded the Steel City Quartet. Greg had sang with The Royal Masters Quartet before for 9 years in the 80's and 90's and is very excited to be back singing with Buck and the guys again. Greg is very blessed to have the faithful love and support of his wife Dee who has always supported him in his singing ministry and stood by his side for the past 26 years.

" I grew up singing southern gospel music and I am glad it is such a big part of my life. Not only is it the greatest music in the world, it truly is the gospel of Jesus Christ in song. I have always loved real quartet style singing and it's good to be back home singing with The Royal Masters again."
